Principal's Corner

Principal's Message

Hello Comet Nation,

I am excited and ready to begin my first year at AJH and I am looking forward to supporting all of the ways we work to promote student growth and educator success. Amherst Junior High offers a wide variety of opportunities for our students' skills and passions to evolve, and I am grateful to be a member of the hard working team that helps to make these opportunities possible.

Ryan Coleman and Rhonda Neuhoff, along with the dedicated staff at AJH, helped support many successes during the 2016-17 school year. Some of the highlights include the success of the state science Olympiad team, the incredible performances by the choir, band, and orchestra, and the numerous athletic teams that represented our community with pride this past year.

We know that the 2017-18 school year presents a unique year as our district transitions students to help support the building of our new school. We will be resilient in helping to make these changes seamless for our students, educators and community. We will continue to build a strong Comet Culture during the next school year and I encourage you to continue to use our webpage to access any resources you may need.

Communication will be a focus of myself and the staff at AJH during the up coming school year. We will use a variety to tools to communicate with you. Please continue using the AJH webpage, Twitter and Instagram ( @AJHComets ), Remind (instructions to sign up will be posted on the AJH website in August), and print media. We will be using these avenues to celebrate the accomplishments of our amazing students and also provide an open dialogue with the community.

Biography

I have had the distinct pleasure of serving many roles during my 12 years in education. I began my journey as a substitute teacher predominately in the Firelands School District, but also in various other districts serving Lorain and Cuyahoga county. I then moved to Keystone where I began as an Athletic Director and World History teacher. While there, I finished my administrative Masters degree at Ashland University. I then had the privilege of serving as Principal at Columbia Middle School and now look forward to working with the team at Amherst Junior High School. As a former Firelands graduate and someone who grew up in South Amherst, it is nice to return so close to home.
