Amherst Community,
I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer with family and friends!
As you may be aware, I had planned to retire in December, with Mr. Mike Molnar assuming the role of Superintendent on November 1st. However, the situation has changed.
The Kenston Local School District in Geauga County suspended their search for a new superintendent at the end of June and decided to hire an interim superintendent. They have asked me to serve as their Interim Superintendent for the 2022-23 school year beginning August 1st. After careful consideration, thought, and prayer we have decided to postpone our retirement plans for six months and I have accepted the position. Even in retirement, my goal was to stay busy with consulting and/or interim work. I never imagined the opportunity to serve another high performing district as an interim would happen so quickly.
I will be submitting my resignation to The Amherst Board of Education effective July 31st. After talking with Board President, Rex Engle, the Board will also take action at the July board meeting, to adjust Mr. Molnar's effective date as Superintendent to August 1st. Mr. Molnar is ready to step into the superintendent's role and work with the staff and community to accomplish more great things in Amherst!
It has truly been a blessing to be part of such a wonderful school district and community. With your support we have been able to do so much! It was with great pride that I was able to share the Amherst story with the Kenston Board during the interview. Through a collective effort by our students, staff, and community, we have been able to move our district forward in a way that many others have taken note of. Thank you for supporting and valuing education!
Our family is very thankful for the many fabulous memories made here in Amherst. I am personally very grateful to have had the opportunity to work with so many outstanding staff and community members over the last 14 years.
Thank you, take care, best wishes, and Go Comets!
Steve
