Health & Wellness

School nursing is a specialized practice of public health nursing that advances the well-being, academic success, and lifelong achievement and health of students. The top priority of our school health team is to keep children healthy, safe, in school, and ready to learn.

Duties of a School Nurse/Clinic Aide
  • Promote health education to encourage healthy lifestyles
  • Care for children who become ill or injured at school
  • Administer medication as ordered by a physician
  • Observe students for signs of communicable disease
  • Provide planning and direct care of students diagnosed with chronic diseases
  • Ensure Ohio Department of Health immunization compliance for all students
  • Conduct vision and hearing screenings as required by Ohio Department of Health 
  • Provide health resources for students, parents and staff
  • Serve as a liaison for students, teachers, parents and community
  • Follow best practices and recommendations from Lorain County Public Health and ODH
  • Train and educate school staff on emergency medical care
