About

Our District

The Amherst Exempted Village School District is one of the top academic districts in northeast Ohio. Amherst is committed to providing a quality educational experience designed to meet the needs of each student in an atmosphere of respect for individual differences, learning styles, and personal development. From tuition-free, all-day Kindergarten at Powers Elementary School to our advanced placement (AP) courses and the Comet College Campus at Steele High School, Amherst exemplifies our district motto, “A Good Place to Live…A Great Place to Learn”.

The Amherst Exempted Village School District provides a high quality education at an excellent value. Amherst residents enjoy the third lowest property taxes in Lorain County and one of the lowest property taxes in all of northeast Ohio. The Amherst Junior High was one of only 14 school districts in the State of Ohio to receive a 2015 National Blue Ribbon Award from the U.S. Department of Education and Steele High School ranks #1 in Lorain County for the number of college credits earned through the Lorain County Community College (LCCC) via the Comet College Campus program.

We believe that parents and community members are vital partners in education and play an important role in helping us plan and implement programs and services that meet the high expectations for Amherst residents. If you have any questions about Amherst’s educational programs and services, please contact Michael Molnar, Executive Director of Educational Services, at mike_molnar@amherstk12.org or 440-988-4406.
