Amherst Schools and OAPSE Announce Three-Year Agreement
May 29, 2019
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE– Amherst Exempted Village Schools and the Ohio Association of Public School Employees Local #208 are proud to announce that the parties have reached an agreement on a three-year contract for employees in the district represented by the union. Both sides emerged with the belief that the agreement is both fair to employees and fiscally responsible with taxpayers' dollars.
"Our goal was to negotiate a contract that keeps wages and benefits competitive, but at the same time keeps the district on track financially," OAPSE Local #208 President Nora Hicks said.
The new contract includes these salary percentage increases for the next three years:
- 2019-2020: 1.25%
- 2020-2021: 1.5%
- 2021-2022: 1.75%
Additionally, employees hired before July 1, 2011 will pick up an additional 2% of medical insurance beginning in the second year of the contract, moving from the current level of 13% to 15%. All staff hired since July 1, 2011 pay 20%, as previously negotiated. These insurance rates are for employees taking part in the wellness program. Employees not participating in the wellness program pay an additional 5%.
"I was impressed with the big picture perspective of the OAPSE negotiating team," Amherst Schools Superintendent Steve Sayers said.
"The process was positive, professional and very collaborative."
