Principal's Message
Biography

Welcome! My name is Brian Teppner and I am the principal of Powers Elementary School. I come to Amherst with 21 years of educational experience, including nine years as a principal at the elementary and middle school levels. I was most recently the principal of McKnight Middle School in Washington State’s Renton School District. In addition to my previous administrative roles, I spent seven years on Washington Governor Jay Inslee’s STEM Education Innovation Alliance and served on the Renton School District’s Special Education Advisory Committee. I am a graduate of Central Washington University as well as Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass., where I earned my Master of Education. I love working at Powers and being a member of the Amherst community!

Assistant Principal's Message - Mary Scott Williams

As the Assistant Principal of Powers Elementary School, I will be working with students to create a positive climate where all students show off their Comet Pride.

Since coming to Amherst I have worked as an Intervention Specialist and the Amherst Junior High School Counselor. I am looking forward to working with you and your student! Have a great school year and GO COMETS!

Dean of Students Message - Rebecca Lawson

I grew up in Amherst and am a proud Amherst Comet Alumni. I have a Bachelor's degree in Education through Ashland University. I also hold a Master's Degree in Special Education through Grand Canyon University and am currently completing my Principal Licensure through the American College of Education.

I am excited and honored to serve the students, community, and staff as the Dean of Students at Amherst Junior High and Powers Elementary School. I have had the privilege of teaching at Powers Elementary School since 2015. Previously, I taught at Vermilion Local School District and at St. Mary Academy in Lorain.

I live in Amherst with my husband, David, who is a teacher at Amherst Junior High School. We have two grown children, (Dakota and Kylie) who are Amherst graduates and our son, Carter, is an 8th grade student this year. We love being part of the Amherst community and are honored to serve our Comet family!
