Principal's Corner

Principal's Message

My name is Joe Tellier. This is my first year serving in the Amherst community as the Principal of Marion L. Steele High School. Before this exciting transition, I spent twenty-two years with Vermilion Schools. I served as a teacher and coach for sixteen years, and the past six years as an administrator. I have lived in Amherst since 1998 and am honored to serve the district I call home! My wife teaches at Powers and my four daughters attend the district. I am excited to be a part of the district as an administrator, father and community member.

I am privileged to begin working with the outstanding staff at Steele H.S. I look forward to watching the students of Steele progress into adults and take their next step beyond our walls! Communication is paramount to student success, never hesitate to contact me via phone, email, or twitter. Go Comets!

I grew up in the Elyria City Schools and began my career in education with Vermilion Local Schools in the fall of 1996. During my time in Vermilion, I have served in many roles: teacher, advisor, coach, and, for the past six years, the assistant principal of Vermilion High School.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in education and master’s degree in educational administration from Ashland University. I also hold a master’s degree in business administration from Tiffin University. In the spring of 2015, I received my superintendent’s license.

I live in Amherst with my wife, Michelle, and four daughters. Michelle currently teaches second grade at Powers Elementary. All four girls are attending Amherst Schools! I am honored and excited to become a part of the Comet family!
