Our 6th grade students in Mrs. Brockman’s and Mrs. Sexton’s classes recently took part in an incredible Mock Trial experience hosted by the Educational Service Center of Lorain County at the Lorain County Courthouse in Elyria! 
This cooperative learning project brings together multiple Lorain County school districts and gives students the chance to step into real courtroom roles.
Over the past six weeks, students:
• Reviewed trial documents, affidavits, and photo evidence
• Built cases for either the prosecution or defense
• Studied courtroom procedures, types of courts, how trials are conducted, and the jury process
• Developed themes for their cases
• Wrote opening and closing statements
• Crafted direct and cross-examination questions
• Learned how to make and respond to objections
Their hard work and dedication truly showed in their performances. What an amazing hands-on learning experience for our students!
