Header Graphic that says Enrollment and Registration

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Welcome to Amherst Exempted Village Schools—we’re so glad you’re here! You’re taking the first step toward becoming part of our Comet family. Below you’ll find everything you need to enroll each of your children. To complete enrollment, the full registration process must be submitted for each student. Enrollment must be completed by a custodial parent or legal guardian, who will provide all required information and signatures. An active email address is required to complete registration and to receive important updates throughout the school year. Please note that a separate registration must be completed for each child you wish to enroll.

We look forward to welcoming your family to Amherst!

Must be 5 years by August 27, 2026 to register for Kindergarten

Please select the appropriate enrollment link to the right to enroll in our school district. If you have any questions about enrollment, please contact the District Registrar, Lisa Overdorff, at (440) 988-1903 or email Lisa.

Important Transportation Updates for the 2026-2027 School Year

Due to the financial impact of the failed operating levies and the resulting budget reductions, Amherst Schools will be implementing transportation services at the State of Ohio minimum requirements beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.

Please review the following important changes:

  • Transportation will only be provided for students who live two-miles or more from their assigned school building. Students residing within the two-mile radius are not eligible for district transportation.

  • Students in grades 9-12 will not receive regular transportation services. The exception is transportation provided to and from the Lorain County JVS for students enrolled in JVS programs. The JVS bus will pick up and drop off students at Steele High School.

  • Students who qualify for transportation will be transported only to and from their designated home bus stop. The district will no longer provide transportation to alternate locations, including babysitters, daycare providers, relatives' homes, or other non-home addresses that are inside of the two-mile radius.

  • "Space Available" transportation requests will not be offered during the 2026-2027 school year. Transportation services will be limited to students who qualify based on their home address and the state-required two-mile eligibility guidelines for each school building.

Open Enrollment

The Amherst Exempted Village School District is not accepting new open enrollment applications for the 2025–2026 or 2026–2027 school years. All new students must reside within the Amherst Exempted Village School District boundaries to enroll.

Report Non-Resident Students

Students of the Amherst Exempted Village School District must maintain residency in Amherst or be accepted under Open Enrollment. If you know of someone who is not an Amherst resident but continues to send their children to the Amherst Schools, please help us by emailing, calling the Board Office at 440-988-1976, or completing the anonymous online form: Reporting Non-Resident Students Form

Amherst resident taxpayer education dollars are earmarked to serve only Amherst residents. In a continuing effort to provide the best education possible for our residents' children at the most efficient cost, we will continue to audit residency of our students. Your help in this endeavor is appreciated.
