Amherst Junior High (6-8)

Good morning AJH Families,

As you may already know, we had a fairly significant issue this morning involving a deer and a broken window.

At around 7:20 this morning, a large deer crashed, full speed, directly through a large windowpane and entered the cafeteria. Unfortunately, we did have a couple of students and staff members sitting in their as we prepared for breakfast. We were able to quickly barricade and contain the deer in the cafeteria and, ultimately, on the stage. With the help of several staff members and APD, we were able to get the deer funneled out the back door without any additional damage or minor injury. We are grateful to all the adults that came to aide the situation.

As shocking as the event was to witness, we are happy to report that no significant injuries took place although a couple of students and staff members were present in the cafeteria when the deer came through the window. Our nurse was onsite and able to support any student in need.

We appreciate all your patience and support as we plan to continue our school day as normally as possible. All students were offered the opportunity to receive breakfast during 1st period.

As an aside, our students handled themselves extremely well. I am proud of their maturity and care for one another.
